The Adolphus Hotel, Dallas in downtown is a historic landmark in Dallas.

Who is still feeling that Markle Sparkle after the royal nuptials? Here’s a little trivia, Dallas has its own royal connection with the Windsors too. Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip chose the historic The Adolphus Hotel, Dallas for their official state visit in 1991. They were such gracious guests, they asked for a formal introduction to all the staff that personally served them during their stay. So here are a few ways to vacation like a royal at The Adolphus Hotel, Dallas.

THE SUITE LIFE

When you have the royal heirs in tow, suites are the way to go. The historic landmark hotel just completed a top-to-toe renovation of its 407 rooms and suites. The Executive King Suite with two King beds and a living area with a sofa is a roomy choice for some downtown downtime. Order room service to start off a leisurely day. Our kids loved sitting by the window counting yellow cars.

For over a century, The Adolphus Hotel has never had a pool, until now. The rooftop pool is intimate in size but big enough for loads of fun.

It was so hard to drag the kids away from the pool so we didn’t even try.

Tip: Snag a cabana for extra comfort.

DINE LIKE A DUKE

There’s several dining options at The Adolphus Hotel. City Hall Bistro, the airy all-day dining restaurant with a modern Mediterranean twist is ideal for families. For those who believe that breakfast is the most important meal of the day order the City Hall Breakfast with 2 farm eggs any style, choice of serrano ham, lamb sausage or bacon, papas bravas, toast. The Short Rib and Eggs are a favorite for my boys. For dinner, charred octopus with olive puree, and chimichurri sauce and the roasted pork belly with honey, pistachio, and fiddlehead fern hit the spot. However, if your family is anything like ours, poolside dining is always a winner.

Otto’s Coffee and Fine Foods has a wonderful grab and go section of pastries, chia seed pudding, salads, and sandwiches. Of course, there’s plenty of coffee options.

But before you leave, browse around the little market area for interesting coffee table books and artisanal groceries.

The fabled French Room has had some illustrious guests over the decades. After a hiatus for the renovation, The French Room was one of the most anticipated restaurant openings of the year. With the new look also comes a fresh new menu. Choose from a 7-course tasting experience for $135 (wine pairings at $115) or a 3-course prix-fixe menu for $95.

Sadly, The French Room is one of the few posh spots in town, we’ve not had a chance to bring our IttyBittyFoodies to. We kept having babies so it was never the right time. Perhaps this year will be the year since Googie recently turned 5 years old and Pikelet is nearly a teen!

AFTERNOON TEA

Afternoon tea is not just for the lords and ladies. Tea at the Adolphus is the quintessential grown-up tea party. So lift your pinkies and sip a Lapsang Souchong. The delicate finger sandwiches and the tiny tea cakes and sweets are absolutely divine. Afternoon tea is served Friday to Sunday from 12pm to 2pm for $55 per person.

SPA QUEEN

Make a deal with your partner to take the kids to the museum district so you can nip into the spa for a couple of hours. The Adolphus Spa offers facials, massages and nail treatments. But if you can, opt for one of their Timeless Journeys which features a combination of services with full day and half day options.

And just FYI, there are men’s treatments at the Adolphus Spa. There’s also a Barbershop tucked away in the hotel lobby where hubby can get a princely makeover with an old fashion shave and classic cut over a cold beer.
