Lamb rib chops – gourmet fast food

“Mama can we please have lamb chops for dinner?” Pikelet asks wistfully in the backseat of the car. I love cooking lamb rib chops. Not only is it delicious, it’s super fast.

  • 8 rib chops
  • Bread crumbs with herbs (optional)*
  • salt & pepper to taste

Heat oven 375 degrees F. Sprinkle each rib chop with salt and pepper and press against the bread crumbs till coated. Add a little olive oil in a non stick pan. On high heat, place each chop in the skillet about a minute on each side to brown. Finish off in the oven for 3 minutes for medium rare.

* Bread crumbs are optional. I do this sometimes to mix things up a little but if your little one is new to the taste of lamb, salt and pepper is just fine.

Thanks for the idea! The store didn’t have any lamb chops so I went with pork. My boys had a great time making them. Do you have any tips on places to find quality meat and how to pick it out?

    Thanks for doing this blog

  2. Nikole, Thanks for trying out the idea! it’s wonderful to get kids involved in what they are eating isn’t it? There are a couple of local butchers that we go to get good quality meats – http://vgsbutchershoppe.com/ VOngeersem Butcher Shoppe on Oaklawn and Kuby’s in Snider plaza. http://www.kubys.com/

Also Whole Foods & Central Market stocks them all the time and we’ve had good luck at Costco. If your boys want more than little ribs – get the lamb LOIN chops. Just put them in the oven a little longer (about 8-12 mins depending on how u like them done). They are also more economical but taste great with this recipe

Lamb meat should be nice and red when you buy them like in my picture.

  3. How I love lamb! Was going to make grilled lamb chops but the store was out. So I actually ended up buying the lamb loin chops and grilled them instead. Glazed with balsamic and honey and served with a side of parsley/mint pesto. Delicious

    Hey Cheryl,

Don’t you love how easy it is with meat really? We just tried some steak with good ol’ butter this weekend (can never go wrong with butter) and some simple herbs! Will try out your lamb soon!
Any inspirations from Donna Hay lately? We also just made donna hay’s spicy beef tortillas this past sunday 🙂
