How did the back-to-school week go for you? We’ve had a trying time getting back to our ‘school night hours’. Thankfully homework hasn’t started yet for my older boys. That’s next week’s battle. For now, we are trying to conquer breakfast, lunch and dinner in a timely fashion. Recently, we discovered Nature’s Plate, a locally-owned store with plant-based meals to go which has been helpful. We’re not vegetarians but we like having some inventive ways to add plant-based dishes to our meals.
Owned by two sisters, Annette Baker and Marianne Lacko, Nature’s Plate started as a call from their friends who said they would buy healthy plant-based meals if only they didn’t have to cook it. The sisters have since developed an entire menu for every meal of the day including healthy snacks and smoothies.
Their meals are:
- plant-based (no meat, no dairy, no eggs)
- gluten-free, soy-free
- no refined sugars
- always whole grains
- 75% organic most meals
- always organic always for dirty dozen
Our personal favorites were the Hearty Breakfast with ‘eggs’ and ‘sausage’ and breakfast potatoes, ‘meatloaf’ with green beans and potatoes and sweet potato enchiladas. And to be honest, the kids didn’t realize there was no meat in the meals.
You can pick up from their storefront in Lake Highlands or one of the pop up locations at Plano and Oak Cliff. This December 2017, Nature’s Plate just announced a second storefront location opening at Preston Forest! “Annette and I are so excited about opening at Preston Forest,” says Marianne. “It’s been a joy to see people from all over Dallas embrace healthier foods and think that Preston Forest is the perfect location for our second outpost.”
We love the grab and go option for emergency nights. If you don’t want to think about what to cook, try one of their meal plans which has a rotating menu or custom order online. It’s so easy!

*Full disclosure, we received several meals to facilitate this review. As always, our opinions are our own.
