Cluck! Cluck! There’s a new top chook in town and Super Chix has us clucking for more! Dallas has an insatiable appetite for fried chicken. Every time a new fried chicken place opens, it’s packed. When we’re at the mall, the lines at Chick-Fil-A snake around at all hours while the adjoining businesses trickle with customers. And I have to admit, fried chicken is also my fast food weakness so I couldn’t help myself when the new Super Chix opened in Addison. We just had to go.
(disclosure: this post is sponsored by Groupon. I received payment but all opinions expressed are my own)
Last year, Super Chix opened their first location in Arlington for test marketing for their international regions. Owned by Yum! Brands who are making a habit of using DFW as their test market (see Bahn Shop), Super Chix set to send Chick-Fil-A to the fryer. Yum! Brands also announced that they didn’t foresee opening other locations in the US. Boy, are we glad they reneged and opened a second one over this summer on Belt Line and Preston.
The menu is simple: fried chicken, hot fries and frozen custard. What else would you need? The chicken is marinated, hand-breaded and fried in-house. You can order sandwiches with several options for toppings like lettuce, tomatoes, Kosher pickles, bacon and avocado. There’s also a grilled version but since our family hardly eat fried food, we’re going fried all the way here!
For those who want purely the chicken, you can order tenders in numbers of 2, 4 or 6. The chicken comes out mouth-scorching hot, moist and crisp. Perfection. Much like their hand cut fries which are seasoned with salt, Signature sweet or rosemary black pepper. We just had ours plain with salt. It really needed little else but a quick blow to stop it from burning our tongues before we gobbled the lot down.
It’s important to know that there’s no high fructose corn syrup, phosphates or MSG used at the establishment. For dessert, there’s thick, dense, frozen custard in pure vanilla, Dutch chocolate and flavor of the day. The day we went they served black raspberry. They offer a custard flight which is three generous scoops of custard which kept my crew happy. There’s also a fridge with pints of frozen custard to go.
At the Dallas locale, there’s freshly squeezed lemonade and craft beers. Like most fast food joints, you line up and order at the counter before taking a seat but the decor is modern, it feels more like a hipster cafe.
If you have wandering little people, there’s seating out the back with a small (and I mean teensy) play area with a chalkboard, hopscotch etc. However, it’s next to a drive through bank which has constant traffic and car fumes so it just wasn’t appealing for us to be out there. If only the drive through was for Super Chix to go order and they would corner the mommy market. Super Chix, we think you’re pretty fry!
Have you seen Groupon Pages? I always check Groupon if I’m heading out for dinner in case, they’ve got a great deal somewhere I’m going to. What’s Groupon Pages you ask? They are merchant listings where users can go to check for ratings, tips, money saving opportunities and other information. So for instance, if you are on the SuperChix Groupon page but they aren’t offering a deal, all you do is click on “Request a Deal”. Hopefully the merchant will take note with the number of requests and then offer a Groupon and you’ll be one of the first to be notified. There are over seven million listings so try it next you’re heading out for a restaurant or need a massage or even something mundane like getting your carpets cleaned.
