NorthPark Center is really stepping up it’s mall food options. First with Green House Market which has become so many of my friends’ new favorite cafe and now with the newly opened Pho Kitchen that is sandwiched between Which Wich and Snappy Salads. If the guys behind the counter look a little familiar, that’s because this is not their first rodeo or pho joint. They are the same crew behind East Wind in Deep Ellum. They are now bringing us the same Vietnamese food in a more casual environment. And what’s more casual at a mall than the food court?
This is another Lunch with Googie review which means it’s a mini review. My little guy who just celebrated his 2nd birthday and I love going to Bookmarks library at NorthPark Center and often find ourselves wondering where to go for lunch. With the onset of winter coming, pho, especially a chicken pho tops of list. it was just pure luck that Pho Kitchen opened the day before we visited.
The pho broth was clean tasting and light. Sometimes beef pho seems overwhelming to Googie so if it’s just us eating, we go for chicken pho. The hot steaming bowl was accompanied by fresh herbs and vegetables and definitely soothed the soul but not quite enough for our stomachs. The portion was a little small and not enough noodles. Googie and I are usually able to share a meal which was a little disappointing especially for the $9 price point.
Banh mi (Vietnamese sandwich) is also another favorite of ours. The vegetarian banh mi with tofu and pickled vegetables, cucumbers and fresh herbs were wrapped in a crusty French baguette. Pho Kitchen nailed this one just right. It’s easy enough to stroll baby around and eat on the run if you need to as well.
Next time, we’re there with Pikelet & Lollo, we’ll try the beef pho and hopefully there’s more noodles in the bowl by then.
