PRICELESS FAMILY MEMORIES AT FOUR SEASONS DALLAS

Staycations are perfect in the second half of summer. It is that time of summer when you feel it has whizzed by too fast. Wasn’t it only just May? And with another impending school year just weeks away, we recommend a late summer getaway at Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas* in Las Colinas. “Are we going on a long road trip?” my littles ask. The kids are pleasantly surprised that our ‘road trip’ ended in just thirty minutes. That’s the beauty of vacationing at the Four Seasons Dallas; it feels far enough to be away somewhere without the pangs of travel time. For us, Four Seasons Hotels are in more than the hotel business, they’re in the business of making memories for the whole family. Our latest YouTube Video of our Four Seasons Dallas weekend staycation says it all. If you need more reasons to visit, here are our top ten reasons why IttyBittyFoodies love vacations at the Four Seasons Dallas.

LAZY MORNINGS

Schedules be gone! We love our lazy mornings especially on Sundays. The 431 rooms and suites are so luxuriously appointed that one of the hardest things for us is to actually leave the room. The IttyBittyFoodies love the kid-sized robes and slippers and the cowboy-themed bath amenities which makes them feel like guests in their own right. Supremely comfortable beds sent us all to slumberland as soon as we slid between those smooth sheets.

HIDDEN TREES SCAVENGER HUNT

We’ve done a lot of scavenger hunts at hotels before. They’re great to get acquainted with the lay of the hotel but this Four Seasons “Hidden Tree” scavenger hunt is by far the most challenging. The idea is to find the Four Seasons signature tree logo hidden around the hotel. The clues arhave a Texan theme and we’re happy to report that our cowboys managed to find all 35 trees but it did take the entire weekend! See below in the picture. It’s so tricky which makes it the most clever scavenger hunt we’ve done!

BALLOON ANIMALS

It’s not everyday you see a cowboy balloon artist at breakfast. He wasn’t your usual balloon guy making swords and sausage dogs (which I’m sure he still can make), he made these multi-piece, elaborate balloon ‘sculptures’ bigger than a toddler. Our kids were enthralled watching him twist and turn balloons with the most surprising results — like an alien turtle and the rose from Beauty and the Beast! What a way to capture the imagination!

SPORTS CLINICS

Tennis and golf clinics start Saturday mornings right. The clinics are complimentary and you can drop your kids off after breakfast. It was pretty cool to see the kids tee off on the award winning PGA Tour golf course. Who knows if there’s a young Jordan Spieth in the making! If you’re staying during the week, there’s summer camp as well for guests that you can sign up for.

FAMILY POOL

The family pool is where kids can be kids and play hard! Fun continues on Friday nights with the Chill ‘n Grill where families can stay out till dark, enjoy a burger or hot dog and watch a movie. On Saturdays, a water slide and games by the pool to keep kids occupied all afternoon. Our

IttyBittyFoodies were completely engrossed in building a sand city at the pool side beach area. The best thing was that there were other kids to play with and they made friends throughout the day.

With all the outdoor activities, it’s important to be sun smart. Stop at the Snappy Sunscreen station to get a top to toe covering before heading outside. You can set the machine to your height before you get misted. The kids thought it was so much fun, they were spraying themselves every few hours. This is the first SnappyScreen sunscreen application station in Texas! I’ve some footage of it in this YouTube Video we made of our Four Seasons Staycation.

DAYBEDS AT THE AGAVE POOL

Snag yourself a daybed by the Agave Pool and get the royal treatment. While the Agave Pool is not adults only, the pool is much quieter and better for floating lazily about. The shaded daybeds are large enough to fit a whole family and comes with a small ice box to store water bottles (4), an Evian misting spritzer and oshibori, refreshing scented cold towels.

We chose a cabana by the steps of pool where it was shallow so the kids could play while we relax a little. The day beds can be reserved for the day and comes with complimentary electronic magazines (napping optional!).

We all enjoyed the mahi mahi tacos and the ahi poke bowl. If you’re there on a Saturday, the mini-spa was excellent. There’s hair braiding and mini massages. Our kids enjoyed getting temporary henna tattoos.

KIDS FOR ALL SEASONS

If there’s one thing that sets apart the Four Seasons from other resorts is Kids For All Seasons (KFAS), kids club. If you need to slip off for a spa treatment or a game of golf, KFAS has professional caretakers to play and babysit your kids (ages 5-13 years) for up to 4 hours (complimentary). There’s also Kids Night In (fee applicable) every Friday and Saturday (only summer months) where you can drop your kids off in the evening for dinner, games and a movie. We took advantage of this time to have date night at LAW Restaurant.

DATE NIGHT

LAW Restaurant which stands for Land, Air and Water is our fave option for date night. The signature LAW restaurant turns fine dining in the evenings featuring a Texas inspired menu. For starters, the sausage tasting is like Texas on a plate with different types of sausages, homemade mustard and pickles served with a salted pretzel hoagie.

The yellowtail ahi tossed lightly with heirloom tomatoes and avocado crema tastes are good as it looks. The grilled jumbo prawns reminded me so much of Australia — because we do really throw shrimp on the barbie! Beefcake went for the prime New York strip with the added indulgence of oscar style blue crab bearnaise on top. Everything on the dessert menu is stellar from crisp warm churro bites with chocolate and caramel sauce to LAW S’mores served up table side. For a more casual dinner, try Outlaw Taproom (click for our review) which opened this year.

COSMIC GOLF

After our date night at LAW Restaurant, we picked the kids up from KFAS and surprised them with Cosmic Golf. We reached the astro turf by the atrium to see a glow in the dark mini golf course all lit up with lights. Playing Cosmic Golf was the most magical way to end our Saturday evening

SUNDAY BRUNCH

Sunday Brunches at the Four Seasons are legendary. Our tip is to make a reservation ahead because you’ll get lots of locals coming in for this brunch. To start, check out the the entire room dedicated just for desserts in the back. You’ll need to figure out how much room you’ll need to save even though the desserts are petite, there’s a lot of them.

My oldest, 11 year old Pikelet, ate his weight in the seafood and filled up on crab claws and shrimp cocktail. 9 year old, Lollo opted for the sliced prime rib and eggs cooked to order. 4 year old loved his sushi and smoked salmon with capers. There’s also an array of salads, baked goods, hot items like chicken and salmon as well as an omelette station. This is not a day for diets or saying ‘no’ to your kids on how much dessert they can have. Enjoy it for what it’s worth and roll yourselves out of the restaurant.

Thank you to the Four Seasons Hotel and Resort Dallas, Las Colinas for hosting our stay! We cherish the memories from the weekend!

Tell us which is your favorite Four Seasons and why! We’d love to hear your comments.
